  1. I check that there is still a place on the expedition.

  2. I send you the detailed itinerary, practical information and terms.

  3. We have a short call by phone or Google Meet to see whether the expedition is right for you.

  4. Only then do you decide whether to book a place.

No automatic booking. No payment when you send the form.

What it is

A private expedition into the inner Aysén Fjord

01 · By water only

A road runs to the mouth of the fjord. Beyond it, only a boat with a local captain.

02 · Six landscapes in 12 days

Fjord, glacier, rainforest, steppe, hot springs, open Pacific.

03 · 3–6 people, your own cabin

Your own cabin on the boat, cabins on land. Decent and clean, not a resort.

Max 6 people isn’t marketing. It’s the boat, and safety.

Who leads it

Not run by an agency.

I’m Jaroslav Sokol and I own land on Aysén Fjord. Twenty years of travelling on my own terms. The land isn’t a hotel; it’s the reason I keep coming back. I lead the expedition myself, with a local captain and crew.

Meet the founder

Who it is for and how hard it is

No extremes. My wife wouldn’t let me.

I built the program with my wife. She is demanding and used to comfort. You walk 5 km a day at most; the rest is by car and by boat, and anyone who wants can fly over the fjord by plane or helicopter. The extreme version, two nights in a tent in the rainforest, is only for groups that choose it.

Difficulty and the 2-minute test

For you if you want Patagonia, but not with a backpack and not on a bus full of people.

Not for you if you expect a five-star resort, a minute-by-minute program and constant signal.

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”

Henry David Thoreau, Walden, 1854

Safety

Is it safe?

Everyone asks. Here is how it works.

  • Boat and crew

We sail with Navega Patagonia on the Patagonia I. The crew takes small groups around the Aysén sea, and Francisco Mora has run their expedition logistics since 2016.

  • Contact

In parts of the fjord there is no mobile signal. There is Starlink on the boat for emergency contact.

  • Health

There are medical supplies on board. The hospital is in Puerto Aysén, where we set out from. Travel insurance covering remote areas is required.

  • Weather

Patagonian weather changes. The program adapts to it. Plan B is a different Plan A, not improvisation.

This is not a cruise ship

Patagonia I is our base in the fjords: a small boat for no more than six guests, with your own cabin, a shared living space and a crew who know the area. It is not a hotel. It is a comfortable, practical base for reaching places where there is no hotel.

“…the strange noises, which, although frequently heard within these gloomy forests, yet scarcely disturb the general silence.”

Charles Darwin, Chonos Archipelago, January 1835
  • Patagonia I at anchor in the fjord, forested hills behind
  • Cabin on Patagonia I: two bunk beds, wood panelling and a small window
  • Saloon on Patagonia I: dining table, a sofa under the windows and a wood stove

  • I lead the expedition in person, from the day you land to the day you fly home.

1834 · HMS Beagle

In Darwin’s wake.

The islands we sail through to Kent Island had no chart until Darwin’s ship drew one. At the turn of 1834 and 1835, HMS Beagle, with Charles Darwin on board, surveyed the Chonos Archipelago. Nearly two hundred years later these waters are still just as remote: no roads, reachable only by boat.
