The fjord you can only reach by water

A 12-day private expedition into the inner Aysén fjord in Chilean Patagonia. Group of 3-6 people, dates January 2027. Here is the full context - the region, the two layers of Patagonia and the place where our land stands.

The Aysén Region

A Look Into the Terrain

This is where my land stands - deep in the Aysén fjord. A road leads to the mouth of the fjord; beyond that, only a boat that carries no tourists. When you step off it, the jungle and machetes begin - the kind of adventure we lived as boys and girls and have long since forgotten. Filmed by me, in February, during the first scouting trip. This is what Aysén looks like when no one is there.

Two Layers of Patagonia

Not every corner of Patagonia
can be found on a map.

The Carretera Austral takes you across the breadth of the continent. Torres del Paine teaches you the scale of glaciers. But Aysén fjord - you can only get there by water, only with a local captain, only with a group that fits into a single boat.

It is a place that doesn't show Patagonia superficially. It opens it differently.

If this is your first time here

You have chosen a beginning that never needs replacing.

If you are returning

This is the layer you always suspected existed.

Contrasts of Patagonia

One region.
The full character of Patagonia.

Patagonia is a continent writ large. The Aysén region is Patagonia in shorthand.

Six distinct types of landscape - fjord, glacier, rainforest, high-mountain steppe, thermal springs, the open Pacific - within a radius you can cover in twelve days on foot, by boat and on horseback. Nowhere else in Patagonia do they sit this close together.

For some, it is a first encounter with Patagonia. For others, the fifth journey that finally makes sense.

Structured access
to remote territory

The expedition takes place in the geographically isolated environment of the fjord, where the signal fades, the roads end and the only way forward is by boat.

No tourist infrastructure. Starlink for the safety link. Travel by boat, vehicle and on foot.

Third-largest ice mass

The Southern Patagonian Ice Field (Campo de Hielo Sur) is the third-largest contiguous ice mass on Earth - right after Antarctica and Greenland. It covers 13,000 km².

🌿

Temperate rainforest

The Aysén region hides the Valdivian temperate rainforest - one of the oldest ecosystems on the planet. Some trees (Alerce) are over 3,600 years old. Time spent in this type of forest demonstrably lowers blood pressure, strengthens the immune system and induces a deep calm that lasts for days after you return.

The world's smallest dolphin

The fjords of Aysén are home to the Chilean dolphin (Cephalorhynchus eutropia) - one of the rarest and smallest dolphins in the world. Only a few thousand individuals remain.

🌋

A volcano beneath the glacier

Hudson Volcano (1,905 m) lies right in the Aysén region. Its 1991 eruption covered an area larger than the Czech Republic in ash. Today it is quiet, but active.

🛣️

Carretera Austral

A 1,240 km road built under the Pinochet regime in the 1970s and 80s. Parts of it remain unpaved to this day. It connected isolated settlements that were previously reachable only by boat or plane.

💎

Marble caves

Lago General Carrera - the second-largest lake in South America - hides marble caves (Capillas de Mármol) whose blue walls were shaped by water over 6,000 years.
